Happy International Women’s Day

International Women’s day is celebrated every year on March 8th. In 1910, the International Socialist Woman’s Conference established that Women’s Day should be celebrated annually.  In 1975, it was then adopted by the United Nations as a celebratory event/day. Based on location, the day is either used to celebrated womanhood or used a day to protest and advocate for women’s rights and issues. The theme for 2019 is #BalanceforBetter. This year is going to be dedicated to women’s achievements and celebration, achieving equality and getting more aware of the discrimination that women continue to suffer from. We have made progress, from diverse women being accurately represented in sports ads, diverse and plus size lingerie models and rejecting gender norms and living our lives unapologetic. However we still live within a toxic system and environment. We still have a long way to go, because black women serve more time for non-violent offences, while privileged white men who have been accused and convicted of rape get to serve less time because it brought too much shame on them and tarnished their reputation within their community, even when the victim has 10 witnesses. Young girls are forced to look down to avoid the faces of cat-callers. While, muslim women are having their hijabs ripped off their heads. We have suffered an immense of pain and turmoil, however we still continue to fight because we are stronger as community and because we can do everything a man can do, while bleeding. ✨✨ #happyinternationalwomensday
