Lisa Macuja-Elizalde was born in Manila, Philippines. She is the first Filipino Prima Ballerina and the first foreign soloist to join Russia’s Mariinsky Ballet, which is one of the world’s leading ballet companies. In the Philippines, she is the Artistic Director of Ballet Manila and Vice-Chairman of the Philippine UNESCO National Commission. She was also the Commissioner of the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women. Macuja-Elizalde is also Directress and faculty member of the Ballet Manila School – a training center for ballet professionals who are steeped in the Russian Vaganova method. Macuja-Elizalde is a proud Filipina and a positive role model for young girls all around the world who want to pursue ballet.
