#Docuseries: We Were Children

In this documentary, listen to Lyna Hart and Glen Anaquod share their experiences at residential schools. Hart disclosed that while filming that it was her very first time sharing her story and experiences while at Guy Hill Residential School in Manitoba. From both experiences, you will observe the dehumanization and forced assimilation tactics that the residential school staff used in order to brainwash indigenous children. For those who aren’t familiar with residential schools or the assimilation efforts that multiple indigenous children suffered from, we would highly recommend this documentary. In order to understand the systemic racism and existing colonialism that indigenous communities still suffer from, we need to recognize how deep-rooted it is. Their oppression is intergenerational and in order to overcome it, we need to share stories and perspectives like Hart’s and Anaquod’s. We also need to take action and support these communities, since ALL of these children were innocent. DISCLAIMER: The video does refer and have scenes containing sexual violence.
